Lesotho is a small country completely surrounded by South Africa. Because of its major economic problems, it was in an upheaval in September 1998. There was rioting, looting, and other forms of "civil disorder." A large proportion of the men of Lesotho have been making a living in South Africa. More than 90 per cent of the people in Lesotho live below the poverty line, which explains the rioting and looting. The country is covered in mountains, and the scenery is reputed to be beautiful. In winter, snow often falls in the mountains.
