TRIPS tips on how to survive a long flight

- Do not drink any alcohol. This makes a HUGE difference!!!!!

- Drink a lot of water and fruit juices.

- Every time a flight attendant offers you food or drink, take it. If you refuse any food, thinking you're not hungry, chances are in 1 hour you will be starving, at which time there will be no food available...

- Fish is easier to digest on a plane at high altitude than red meat.

- Take a high protein snack on board with you. (Peanuts, granola bar, yogurt bar.)

- The night before the flight, get some really good, heavy aerobic exercise.

- Get a good night's sleep before the flight (no partying!)(no hangovers!)

- Wear loose comfortable clothing on board.

- Wear slip-on shoes so you can get comfortable without having to bend over to undo shoe laces.

- Do not drink any coffee! Yes, this also makes a HUGE difference!!

- If there is a stopover anywhere, get off the plane and walk around for the entire stopover (but no booze or coffee!!!!).

- If you want to sleep comfortably during the flight, get a window seat. You can put your pillow in the window and sleep curled into it. This is quite comfortable. Trying to sleep in a seat pushed back is really difficult; plus, you'll keep waking yourself up drooling and snoring... Window seats are great for sleeping.

- If you are noise-sensitive, wear ear-plugs; the heavy duty foam kind are excellent for blocking out annoying noises.

- Ask your counter clerk to make sure your seat is nowhere near any screaming kids (although they tend to sleep after about an hour...)
