Dominica:
For nature lovers, Dominica is the Caribbean island to go to, as it's mostly covered in mountainous rainforest. An undeveloped island, Dominica has escaped mass tourism. The national parks are amazing places to hike, bird watch the famous parrots, watch whales in the sea, and soak in the volcanic hot springs and sulfur pools. You can stay in eco-lodges, and hike to your heart's content. Two highlights are Boiling Lake, which is of volcanic origin, and Morne Trois Pitons National Park, which has crater lakes and waterfalls.
Dominica is also known as a rainy place, although most of the rain falls in the summertime; hurricanes hit the island between June and November.
English is the official language, but most people speak French Creole as well. The crime rate is low, the literacy rate is high, and wealth disparities are not as significant as they are on other Caribbean islands.
