Here's an extremely subjective comparison of all the countries I've spent a substantial amount of time in. I apologize to anyone from any of these countries who may be offended by my "worst" features category, but an opinion is something that everyone is born with. In some cases, I had to think hard of what the "worst" feature was. Also, I realize that the "worst" may be linked to the "best" - as with Spain, where the worst aspect is the bullfighting, but the best is the culture; of course, bullfighting is part of Spanish culture. It's these little ironies that make travelling so fun.....As well, for a couple of countries I couldn't narrow the "best" down to just one, so there may be a couple of "best" features. Finally, Jugoslavia in this chart has not been split up, because I was there before the war.
If you would like to ask me anything about any of these countries, please e-mail me at: lynnes@interlog.comNote that the countries I've visited most recently are: Ecuador, Guatemala, United States, and Indonesia, along with Baffin Island in the Canadian north.
I have rated friendliness on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is total indifference, and 10 is very warm, hospitable, outgoing and welcoming. In a "1" country you can feel invisible like no-one knows you're alive. In a "10" country you feel like everyone loves you to bits.
Sexual harrassment I have rated on a scale of 1-5, where 1 is complete indifference to the fact that you are female, and 5 is constant unwanted attention in the form of catcalls, following, touching, sexual propositions, and proposals of marriage. Since harrassment can vary in its tone, anyone interested in knowing exactly what kind of harrassment I experienced in these countries should e-mail me at: lynnes@interlog.com. For instance, Indonesia is a "4" country, but the attention here was very benign, more like puppy dogs than wolves. Italy, on the other hand, is a "4" country as well, but the harrassment here got downright nasty (my apologies to all Italian men everywhere, including my brother-in-law Gino....).OK, Let's see this country comparison chart right now...
